Achieving Your Dreams
At some point in our lives, each of us have dreamed of achieving something great. Things such as financial freedom, better homes, better relationships, etc.
Unfortunately, most often our dreams remain just that – dreams. And for reasons unknown to us, we just can’t seem to bridge the gap between where we are now, to where we want to be in life.
These cycles of unrealized dreams, if not broken, can become a pattern of failure for our life. Thus, instead of experiencing the joys of financial freedom and better lives we get stuck in this pattern of living from day-to-day; surviving instead of thriving.
Life could be so much better, if only we could break these cycles of defeat!
The most common problem to living the life we want versus the life we’ve settled for, is the word “Can’t.” Most people get hung up thinking I can’t do this. It’s too hard. It’s too complicated. No one can do this!
However, if everyone thought that there would be no inventions, no innovations and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.
So the problem is not that it can’t be done, the problem is, we just can’t seem to do it.
Why is this?
Here’s my answer…
Most people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams, then not acting on them. The end result? More broken dreams, more self-doubt and more defeat. Remember this, a dream without action is just wishful thinking!
Listen, if you limit yourself with self-doubt and self-limiting beliefs, you will never be able to break the patterns of defeat and broken dreams. Also, if you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream.
Remember: “Faith without works is dead!”
Do this exercise…
Take a piece of paper and create three columns down the length of the page; top to bottom. Now, get ready to write down your goals for life; goals you may have put on the back shelf for awhile. Really think about each and every one of them, and then ask yourself this question as you think…
“What if it were possible?”
Now, under the first header list things ‘You Know You Can Do’. Under the second header, write the things ‘You Might Be Able To Do.’ And under the last header, list the things that that are ‘Impossible For You To Do.’
Now look at the first header, work every day to accomplish the goals that are under things ‘You Know You Can Do’. Check each one off as you accomplish them. As you slowly check all of your goals under that heading, work to accomplish the goals under the second header that reads: ‘You Might Be Able To Do.’
As for the items you wrote under things “You Know You Can Do” are accomplished, you can now move the goals that are under things that are ‘Impossible For You To Do’ to the list of things ‘You Might Be Able To Do.’
As you continue through this process, you’ll find out that the goals you thought were once impossible, become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begins to seem possible!
The lesson here is to free your imagination. It is to aim higher, believe more is possible and start working towards your goal of a better life a little each day. However, it also is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic.
Those who dream dreams without working diligently towards them end up disappointed, disillusioned, and defeated…
Listen, if you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for mankind to land on the moon, they would laugh you to scorn. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they’d say you had lost your mind. But through sheer desire and perseverance, these once impossible dreams are now realities.
Here’s my advice to those stuck in cycles of defeat and living life less than their best…
“Don’t get caught up in your own perceived limitations!”
Think BIG and work on your list of goals straight towards your dreams. And as you step up each rung on the ladder of progress, you’ll find that the impossible has just become possible!
And as you continue to dream more and achieve more, you’ll soon discover you’ve created the life you’ve always dreamed of!
