Habits of Six-Figure Bloggers

When I hear someone speaking of how easy it is to make money blogging, they make it sound as if the whole process is incredibly simple. While there are bloggers that do make six-figures with their blogs, the majority of bloggers are struggling to make even a few hundred dollars a month! I know this statement isn’t popular with the whole “get-rich-quick-blogging” crowd, but if you’re serious about making money with blogs, then it would be wise to learn the habits of six-figure bloggers.Following are several habits of six-figure bloggers, develop these habits, and you too can make more money using blogs.

  • Increase Blog Traffic, Consistently!

No matter how much blog traffic (visitors) you may have coming to your blog each month currently, you can expect to see your visitor counts steadily decrease if you do not reach out to new readers. One habit six-figure bloggers have to increase blog traffic, is that they actively participate in forums and other venues around the web.

Forums, affiliate reviews, social-media sites and especially other blogs, are great ways to increase the presence of your blog. Six-figure bloggers make it a habit of keeping up to date of what’s happening in these sites, they subscribe to their RSS feed, and they are sure to give consistent feedback at these sites to promote their own blogs.

Caution
: Remember not to promote your blog too blatantly, as you risk the chance of getting kicked out of these venues. And once you’ve been kicked out and have lost credibility, it’s very difficult to get it back!

  • Relevant Blog Posts

Sorry, but no one cares if you’re sick with the flu or the neighbors cat died; at least none of your blog visitors do!  Six-figure bloggers keep people coming back to their blogs by always providing something new, something relevant, in their blog posts for their reader to take advantage of and to use personally.  They do not, however, make it a habit of posting about their health status or that of the neighbors cat!  Now this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t insert a personal tidbit ever now and then; just be sure that if you do, let it be constructive.

  • Be Consistent

Please, don’t treat your blogs as if they were some sort of “Set It & Forget It” piece of cookware or something; be consistent!  Listen, the more frequently you post to your blog the more readers will keep checking back to see if you added something new. Daily posts are considered ideal! If someone asked me to pick only one word that described the most successful habit of a six-figure blogger, it would be consistency. Six-figure bloggers, as well as successful people in general, are consistent in their efforts.

Caution: Posting just for the sake of posting will do you far more harm than good in the long run. Always treat your readers with respect, and don’t insult their intelligence by posting something that is not of value to them.

  • Keyword Optimization

Always remember this, search engines are your best friend when it comes to blog traffic!  More likely than not, your reader found your blog through the use of a search engine. More likely than not, they were using Google to find keywords associated to your blog posts. Six-figure bloggers make it a habit of focusing their blogging efforts around a set of keywords related to their niche market, their blogs purpose, and then insert them appropriately into their blog posts.

Caution: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not about cramming your blog posts with keywords. Use them once each within each section of your article, and spread them around so they’re not all bunched-up within the article itself. However, when you’re writing a blog post about blogs, blog posting, etc. it’s sometimes difficult to adhere to this advice ;)

  • Proper Use Of Blog Ads

Nobody, me included, likes intrusive pop-ups! Although ads are the primary ways in which you earn money blogging, remember to keep them in areas that are readable and non-intrusive. If you notice here at my blog, I’ve chosen to place the bulk of my ads to the right of the content. Why? Because we read from left-to-right and I want you to read my content, first, and not after you’ve had to wade through a bunch of ads and pop-ups to get to it!

However, there is one exception I will make when it comes to “pop-ups”, and that is a “Slider’ type pop-up. An ad slider is a pop-up, if you can really call it this, that slides down from the top, or up from the bottom, of the web page and then stays there (at the bottom or top of the page). Slider ads are non-intrusive and do not distract me from what I’m reading, and are easily closed.

And lastly, make sure your ads are congruent with your blogs purpose; your niche market, the content of your blog, etc. In other words, don’t increase the chances of lost revenues by placing ads on your blog that have nothing to do with what your blogs purpose! Place ads appropriately within your blog, and avoid all pop-ups or screen-blocking advertisements if you do not want to lose new visitors to your site.

Increasing blog traffic and visitor counts, posting relevant blog posts, consistent updates, keyword optimized posts and proper use and placement of blog ads are five of the most common habits of six-figure bloggers. Keep these in mind and you too will make more money blogging!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, be sure to check back often for more updates. As always, we appreciate your feedback, comments and questions.

Until next time,

Godspeed
