At this present writing, there are more than 115 Million blogs worldwide. The majority of these blogs are strictly for the purpose of making money. Unfortunately, the majority of these bloggers are failing miserably at making money with blogs. The reasons for such a high failure rate vary from: too little or no traffic, not willing to invest money in their blog, and some, sorry to say, are just too lazy.
In all fairness, however, the majority of blog failures are simply from having low traffic. In today’s blog post, I’ll share with you 10 blogging tips of how to increase your traffic to blog.
Just as “Copy is King!” when it comes to copy-writing, traffic is just as important if not more so. Without traffic, your money making efforts are going nowhere, fast! Listen, if you can master just one skill that will virtually guarantee your online success, it is the ability to drive traffic to blogs, websites, landing pages, etc.
There are just as many ways to increase your blog traffic as there are bloggers it seems. However, the following traffic tips are a good starting place…
1. Post Comments to Other Experts’ Blogs – I know this is common knowledge amongst most bloggers, however, it amazes me still how few people take time to do this. Frequently leaving comments on experts blogs, blogs which have high traffic and Alexa ranking, will likewise increase your blog traffic. Remember to leave comments based on you having actually read the blog content, versus saying something like: “Yo dude, this rocks!” or something else stupid along these lines. Posting quality blog comments allows other people to gain interest in you and then visit your blog.
2. Submit Articles to Directories – Article marketing is perhaps the oldest and most effective way to increase traffic to blog. Submitting articles to Article Directories can bring you loads of blog traffic, when done correctly. The key to successful article marketing is consistency. It is best to submit 1 article each day, versus posting 2-3 articles one day then nothing the rest of the week. A good place to submit articles would be EzineArticles and GoArticles. Also, don’t forget to put a link in your resource box linking back to your blog.
3. Community Forums – Participating in community forums can also bring you lots of traffic. I like forums for not only the traffic they bring me, but also because I can always learn some new blogging tip or just simply keep up to date of what’s going on in the blogosphere! Again, remember to put a link in your resource box linking to your blog.
4. Social Bookmarking – Social Bookmarking can increase your blog traffic as well. Bookmark your blog posts to Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit. Also, don’t forget to submit your blog post every time you publish a post. This will help increase backlinks to your blog, and help to get higher search engine rankings.
5. Update Your Blog Frequently – Rule #1: DO NOT let your blog disappear from the radar screen! If you do not consistently post to your blog, you will lose traffic and potential sales. Set a schedule for when and what you are going to post to your blog. I suggest posting no less than 3 times per week. If you can update your blog everyday then great, so long as you’re posting quality blog content.
6. Paid Advertising – Paid advertising can definitely boost your blog traffic! However, the first thing you need to do is determine your budget so that you don’t spend too much. If advertising your blog or sales page on Google AdWords is out of reach, try services like BidVertiser. You’ll also want to consider using blogs with high traffic and Alexa ranking to advertise your blog. Remember, choose only blogs which have the same target niche as you, so you don’t waste money driving the wrong traffic to your blog.
7. Contests – Run a contest on your blog to boost blog traffic! Make sure the type of contest and the prize given fits your blogging budget, and is something of value to your readers. Be creative in your contest, think of ways to grab the readers attention, and then make them want to keep reading. Here’s an example: “The blogger with the most comments this month, will receive a copy of my new ebook: ‘Title Of Your Ebook!’ A regular $29.95 value, yours free just for commenting!” or something along these lines.
8. Link Exchanges – Exchanging links with other bloggers is another effective way to boost your blog traffic! Simply go to Google Blog Search, find a few blogs which have the same niche as you, then request to exchange links with the webmasters by contacting them. If you succeed at exchanging links with blogs that have high traffic, your traffic also will increase.
9. Submit to Blog Directories - This may be the most important step to getting more traffic to blog. Start by submitting your blog to Technorati, Techmeme, Blogcatalog and other blog directories. Blog directories are a really great source for driving massive traffic to your blog. Stay on top of this one here, don’t get lazy and put this off!
10. Offer Freebie – Who can resist something free? Not me! Giving away freebies at your blog works, if you are creative enough and you know the things your readers actually value. Include a few freebies now & then in your autoresponder messages to those not already on your mailing list to help increase subscribers. If your freebies are good enough, your readers will pass these along to their friends. Then, your traffic becomes viral and will start to increase exponentially!
These are 10 of the most tried & true methods for getting traffic to blog. Make a habit of doing these 10 methods, and you too will experience an increase in blog traffic. Don’t ‘poke it with a stick’ when it comes to your blog business.
