Why Bloggers Fail To Make Money

The popularity of blogging is such, that many people have been able to turn it into a full-time income. However, many bloggers fail in their attempts to make money blogging because of the difficulties they face. This isn’t because it’s not a viable way to make money, there are simply too many bloggers that do to say otherwise. So, why do bloggers fail?

Bloggers fail because their approach to blogging is wrong!

Blogging to make money requires work!  And although you work for yourself just as you would with a traditional offline business, blogging requires a different kind of dedication and determination in order to succeed.  For those who are serious about making money blogging in their spare time, or even those who want to earn enough to quit their jobs, there are a few rules you need to follow.

Rule #1: You must research and select the best niche market for your blog!

Many would be bloggers want to blog about their own hobbies or interests, but if that niche is not deep enough to generate an income, making money with a blog will be very difficult. I’m not trying to say your hobby or interest is boring or unimportant, it just may be that it is not a viable market to make money with, that’s all.

Obviously, it’s very important to research a market that will increase traffic to blog and make traffic pay, but at the same time, it must also be a market or subject that you are willing to devote time to learn and write about. While many bloggers who make money using blogs are already “webucated”, it’s very important that you keep up with the latest web publishing software and blogging trends. If your blog is behind the times or doesn’t keep up with new ways of increasing blog traffic, you will struggle against those bloggers who do.

Rule #2: You have to be passionate!

If you are not passionate about what you are blogging about in your posts, your visitors will pick up on this, lose interest, and have no desire to stay at your site.  This results in lost revenues from your banner ads, text ads, and your affiliate products. And if your ads don’t get clicked on, your blog will never make any money. Becoming the expert in your niche, and being passionate about it is vital to your blogs success!

Rule #3: Work smarter, not harder!

Successful bloggers take advantage of every blog tool they have at their disposal; such as: RSS feeds, podcasts, ezines, article marketing, blogging software, SEO, plugins, widgets, etc; etc. By taking advantage of all the latest technologies and blogging trends, not only will you keep up with the pack, eventually you’ll become one of the top bloggers in your niche. They key here is to let the tools do the work for you, and to work smarter not harder!

Rule #4: Be Consistent!

Now, if I had to choose only one word to explain the difference between those who succeed at blogging and those who fail, it would be…Consistency!

Listen, visitors will lose interest if your blog is not updated frequently. On the one hand, updating your blog every day can result in a very high turnover. For example, a blog about a rapidly changing medium like current events can literally thrive on daily updates. However, on the other hand a blog about hobbies such as knitting, scrap-booking, etc. may best be served by “content-rich” weekly updates.

A blog that is updated too often may come across as “spammy” to some readers. Despite this, however, a blog with niche-specific content and well-written updates can keep many readers coming back for more! Also, making sure your updates are on a regular schedule rather than at random.  This too can increase the chances of your readers coming back.

Rule #5: Don’t get discouraged!

Blogging for money does not have to be a difficult undertaking, lord knows you don’t need another job. And don’t let the lack of success from other bloggers keep you from making money blogging!  Bloggers who simply jump in and try to learn while swimming in over their heads, and those who are unprepared or not serious about blogging, are always leaving (literally) room for those of us who are! If you’re truly serious about the living the lifestyle of a six-figure blogger, then you can not afford to let yourself get discouraged (You hang in there, we’re pulling for you!)

By being diligent  in your research, having passion for what you’re doing, working smarter, being consistent and not letting yourself get discouraged is it possible to turn your dreams of making money blogging into reality!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, be sure to check back often for more updates. As always, we appreciate your feedback, comments and questions.

Until next time,

Godspeed

James
